Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic looks back at how Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves have developed since the 2019/20 season, when Edwards and McDaniels were just entering the league, and Reid was in his second year.
Even at that early stage, there were indications that all three could grow into key contributors.
As Krawczynski explains, their impact was noticeable despite their youth and inconsistency at the time. One former front office executive recalled that their potential stood out, even in difficult moments.
“Despite Ant shooting poorly, you saw that all of these guys were difference-makers,” a former front office executive said.
“Even with a horrific loss, you saw that there was something. The gym was empty, no one in the world probably saw that game. … In the end, we knew there was something positive.”
Edwards has played 6 seasons for the Timberwolves. He has averaged 24.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 442 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games.
