Washington Wizards center Anthony Davis became eligible for a contract extension on August 6, but the two sides are reportedly in no rush to begin negotiations.
According to reports, Davis and the Wizards are expected to wait until the regular season is underway before discussing a new deal.
If Davis declines his player option for the 2027-28 season, he would be eligible to sign a four-year extension worth up to $274.9 million. If he instead exercises the option, he could agree to a three-year, $213.6 million extension before the start of the season.
For now, the four-year extension is considered the more likely scenario.
Washington and Davis are believed to have a strong relationship, with both sides preferring to evaluate how the partnership develops on the court before committing to a long-term agreement.
After being acquired before last season’s trade deadline, Davis did not make his Wizards debut because he was shut down with multiple injuries. He is expected to make his first appearance for Washington on opening night this season.
The 14-year NBA veteran participated in the team’s minicamp during Summer League in Las Vegas and was also seen supporting the Wizards from the sidelines throughout the event.
