Alex Sarr of the Washington Wizards recently underwent surgery to repair a fractured foot, but the injury is not expected to impact his availability for the start of next season.

The injury occurred during an offseason workout last week when Sarr suffered the fracture on a contact play.

Surgery was performed on Monday, and early indications are that the young big man remains on track to be fully recovered by opening night.

The setback comes after a strong second NBA season for the Washington Wizards forward-center.

Across 48 games, Sarr averaged 16.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 blocks in 27.2 minutes per game while continuing to establish himself as one of the league’s most promising young frontcourt players.

His overall development was reflected in a significant jump in efficiency, as his Player Efficiency Rating improved from 12.8 during his rookie campaign to 19.0 in his second season.

Selected second overall by Washington in the 2024 NBA Draft, Sarr is expected to play a major role in the franchise’s future plans.
