Stephen Curry praised Ty Jerome’s development after the Memphis Grizzlies guard scored 28 points against the Golden State Warriors in a 111-108 win on Friday, October 23.
“He’s obviously gotten a lot better since he was here,” Curry said. “He was a great player when he was here, but he’s got a full green light over there to kind of do whatever he wants and run their system, and initiate a lot of their scoring.”
Curry also highlighted Jerome’s ability to create problems for opposing defenses.
“He’s a tough cover and he’s got a lot of weapons around him, spread the floor,” Curry said.
Curry finished with 24 points, four assists and 11-for-11 shooting from the free-throw line. However, Golden State could not close out a game in which it had led by 12 points late in the fourth quarter. The Warriors missed nine shots after De’Anthony Melton’s 3-pointer made it 106-94 with 3:47 remaining and did not score another field goal.
The four-time NBA champion said the late collapse came down largely to missed opportunities rather than confusion over the team’s offensive approach.
“We just missed shots,” Curry said. “We had a couple more, a couple wide-open threes we missed. And you just need obviously one of those to go in just to stop the run and give yourself a little cushion and a little life and belief.”
Jerome’s production in Memphis has reflected his expanded role. After averaging 6.9 points and 3.0 assists in 45 games for Golden State during the 2022-23 season, he averaged 12.5 points and 3.4 assists in 70 games for Cleveland in 2024-25, shooting 51.6% from the field and 43.9% from three-point range.
He continued that progress after joining Memphis, averaging 19.7 points and 5.7 assists in 15 games during the 2025-26 season. Jerome shot 47.4% from the field, including 42.0% from three, and made 87.5% of his free throws.
His start to the 2026-27 campaign has been even more productive. In his first game, Jerome recorded 45 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 32 minutes, shooting 68.0% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc. His 28-point performance against Golden State followed that opening outing, according to the supplied game information.
The Warriors visit Phoenix on Saturday, while Memphis travels to Sacramento on Sunday.
