World Cup-winning coach Luis de la Fuente has signed a six-year contract extension that will keep him in charge of Spain until the end of the Euro 2032.
The Spanish FA (Rfef) ratified the agreement at an Executive Committee meeting in Madrid on Monday, giving formal approval to a renewal that had been agreed during the World Cup, which Spain beat Argentina in the final to win in July.
“During Euro 2024, we began to emphasise a word that gave us a great deal of security, confidence and strength family,” De la Fuente said in a press conference on Monday. “We want the Spanish national team to be a family and that is honestly how we feel.
“We are not content with what we have achieved so far. The best is yet to come.”
It is the longest tenure ever agreed for a Spain head coach and takes De la Fuente through the next three major tournaments, including a home World Cup in 2030.
The deal is said to include a considerable pay rise after De la Fuente delivered back-to-back major titles for La Roja, preceding his World Cup triumph this summer with silverware at Euro 2024, where Spain beat England in the final.
De la Fuente has managed 50 Spain matches, with his record standing at 38 wins, 10 wins and two defeats. Those losses came against Scotland, his only competitive defeat, and Colombia in a friendly in London.
Spain are on their longest unbeaten run in international football history, going 38 matches without defeat.
