The Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Miami Heat’s G League affiliate, have acquired the G League rights to center Mo Bamba, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
The move comes as the Heat continue reshaping their roster following a blockbuster offseason that brought Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami.
As part of the transaction, Sioux Falls acquired Bamba’s rights while the Heat sent their G League rights to guard Trevor Keels to the Washington Wizards’ affiliate.
The move does not necessarily mean Bamba will play for the Skyforce. Winderman specifically noted that it remains uncertain whether Sioux Falls will utilize its newly acquired rights.
Bamba, 28, last played in the NBA during the 2025-26 season, appearing in two games for the Utah Jazz and two for the Toronto Raptors. He averaged five points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes for Utah, while his Toronto stint consisted of three minutes.
His most recent significant NBA opportunity came with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2024-25. Bamba averaged 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in 28 games, shooting 46.6% from the field.
The former No. 6 overall pick has also shown considerable production in the G League. During the 2025-26 season with the Salt Lake City Stars, Bamba averaged 17.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.5 blocks in 23 games. He shot 56.0% from the field and 39.0% from three-point range.
Bamba has 10 NBA seasons of experience dating back to his rookie year with the Orlando Magic in 2018-19. His best NBA season came in 2021-22, when he averaged 10.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 71 games while shooting 38.1% from three-point range.
The Heat already have Bam Adebayo and Nick Richards at center, while two-way player Vladislav Goldin is also under contract. Adebayo averaged 20.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 73 games last season and earned All-Defensive Second Team honors.
Miami has undergone significant changes following the acquisition of Giannis and Bobby Portis from Milwaukee. The Heat sent Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakucionis and multiple draft assets to the Bucks in the June blockbuster, officially completed July 6.
Keels, meanwhile, impressed during the Heat’s summer league run but is now moving on from Miami’s G League plans. Winderman described the transaction as another indication that the Heat are confident in their upgraded shooting.
