EuroLeague has launched disciplinary proceedings against Dubai BC following comments made by club official Dejan Kamenjasevic regarding Thomas Walkup.
Kamenjasevic recently acknowledged in an interview that Dubai had shown interest in Walkup. Given the circumstances surrounding the player’s contract, those remarks could potentially conflict with EuroLeague regulations.
At the same time, EuroLeague officials are collecting additional information about Walkup’s contractual status with Olympiacos.
The guard has not participated in Olympiacos’ preseason preparations and has formally submitted a written request asking to be released from his contract immediately and without cause.
Olympiacos has responded by beginning its own disciplinary proceedings against Walkup, leaving the two sides at an impasse.
In theory, Walkup could agree to terms with another club, which could then request his letter of clearance from FIBA. FIBA would subsequently have to determine whether he should be authorized to represent his new team.
Until such a move occurs, Walkup remains locked in a dispute with Olympiacos. Any unresolved financial matters could eventually be taken to the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT).
