Sydney Marathon 2026 schedule, prize money, elite fields and how to watch

The Sydney Marathon is back for 2026 with a record-breaking 41,000 runners taking to the course for the seventh World Marathon Major of the year.

Last year’s champions both broke the course record, with Ethiopia’s Hailemaryam Kiros winning in 2:06:06 and Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan triumphing in 2:18:22.

Both reigning world champions Alphonce Simbu and Peres Jepchirchir are in the elite line-up, while Ethiopia’s former Boston and London Marathon winner Sisay Lemma headlines the men’s field and compatriot and track star Hagos Gebrhiwet makes his debut over this distance.

Meanwhile Olympic champion Jepchirchir will be the favourite in the women’s field although compatriot Irine Cheptai, Tanzania’s Magdalena Shauri and multiple world champion Vivian Cheruiyot are among the other star names.

Here’s everything you need to know.
