The Los Angeles Lakers are preparing for another ownership change after Mark Walter agreed to sell his majority stake to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for $12.5 billion.

Iger confirmed that the new owners intend to honor the agreement keeping Jeanie Buss as team Governor for the next several years, although he added that “if things change, they’ll change.”

Luka Doncic responded positively to the sale.

“Being a Laker means everything to me, and I’m excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA.

“I’ve gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise.

“I look forward to meeting Josh and Bob so we can get to work building something special in LA together.”

Doncic reportedly texted Iger and Kushner on Thursday, with the three planning to meet “soon.”

The sale still requires approval from at least three-quarters of the NBA Board of Governors. Kushner must also sell his minority stake in the Miami Heat before taking control of the Lakers.

For now, specific plans for the franchise remain unclear.

Iger said it is “premature to speculate at all about what we plan to do, because frankly, we haven’t made any plans yet.”
