
The European Athletics Championships are underway in Birmingham, with a number of Irish athletes already progressing from the morning session.
Mark English has won his 800 metres semi-final in a championship-record time of 1 minute 43.49 seconds.
He now advances to tomorrow night’s final.
Sophie Becker has qualified for tomorrow’s women’s 400 metres semi-finals.
The Wexford athlete produced a season-best time of 52.28 seconds in her heat this morning.
There will be further Irish interest in this evening’s session.
Bandon’s Nicola Tuthill goes for a medal in the women’s hammer final at 7.45pm.
Rhasidat Adeleke and Lauren Roy are both in the women’s 200 metres semi-finals from 8.20pm.
Roy booked her place earlier today after running 23.20 seconds in her heat, while Adeleke continues her return to championship action.
