Veteran NBA coach Dwane Casey is among the candidates to become BC Roma SPQR’s first head coach, according to Marc Stein.
The newly formed Italian club is evaluating Casey along with several European coaches before making its final decision.
Casey has worked as a senior adviser with the Detroit Pistons since leaving the bench in 2023.
During his coaching career, he led the Timberwolves, Raptors and Pistons, winning NBA Coach of the Year after guiding Toronto to a franchise-record 59 wins in 2017-18.
He also shares history with Roma co-owner Donnie Nelson, serving as an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks during the team’s 2011 NBA championship run.
BC Roma SPQR was created after acquiring Vanoli Cremona and relocating to Rome for the 2026-27 season.
The ownership group includes Luka Doncic, Nelson, Rimantas Kaukenas and veteran Italian coach Valerio Bianchini.
The club will compete in Italy’s Serie A and the EuroCup while aiming to become part of the proposed NBA Europe competition.
