Carmelo Anthony has opened up about a long-discussed career decision, explaining why he ultimately chose not to join the Chicago Bulls during a key free agency period in his prime years.
Speaking on the topic on 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony pointed to internal uncertainty around the organization at the time as the deciding factor in his choice. The former All-Star forward indicated that instability within the franchise structure influenced his reluctance to commit.
“And a little birdie told me that sh–t was about to break up in Chicago,” Melo said, via HoopsHype. “So, I didn’t want to walk into that… Yeah, it was just like, it was a lot of business that wasn’t handled. Contracts, people leaving, and coaches were leaving, it was whispers. So I didn’t want to deal with that. And I was already comfortable here, so the only place I’d have left for would have been Chicago.”
The comments reflect how off-court organizational direction can influence player movement decisions, especially for high-usage scoring stars like Anthony, who spent the majority of his career as a primary offensive option.
During his NBA peak, Anthony was one of the league’s most consistent scorers, highlighted by multiple seasons above 25 points per game, including a 28.7-point campaign in 2012-13 with the New York Knicks.
