Shai Gilgeous-Alexander officially captured his second consecutive NBA MVP award, becoming just the fifth guard and 14th player in league history to win the honor in back-to-back seasons.

The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar said the achievement was built on the sacrifices and support of the people around him throughout his career.

“There are so many people in my life who sacrificed for me to just play this game I love,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

The Canadian guard also explained that awards and online attention are not what motivate him most.

“But the accolades and points and all of the stuff that’s cool on social media, none of that is what I’m after,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

“I’m just making sure that while I’m doing this thing I’m giving it my all and I’m not wasting anybody’s time.”

Gilgeous-Alexander has played 8 seasons for the Thunder and Clippers. He has averaged 25.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 530 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games. He has won 2 MVP awards, 1 Finals MVP award, and 1 NBA championship.
