Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the Golden State Warriors have already discussed the future with Draymond Green, though the veteran forward still controls the final decision through his player option for next season.
Green holds a $27.7 million option for the 2026-27 season and must decide by June 29 whether to opt in, negotiate a longer contract with Golden State, or potentially explore free agency.
“I think we have had discussions where we want him to finish his career (as) a Warrior,” Dunleavy said. “He kind of feels the same way. I would expect him to be back, but it’s his call on that.”
Green, now 36 years old, has spent his entire NBA career with Golden State after being selected in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft.
During his time with the franchise, he has won four championships, earned four All-Star selections, and captured the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year award.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also made it clear he hopes Green and Stephen Curry remain with the organization for years to come.
“The number one thing is, it’s up to him,” Kerr said. “He has the player option, so he has to go through that with his agent, how that plays out.”
Kerr also praised the long-term partnership he has built with Green and Curry during Golden State’s championship era.
“I am committed to coaching him, coaching Steph, obviously, for as long as they’re here,” Kerr said. “I look at them as collaborators, and what we’ve built is pretty special.”
