Matisse Thybulle said he is entering unrestricted free agency without any specific expectations, though he admitted he would like to remain with the Portland Trail Blazers moving forward.
“I have no expectations,” the player said, while adding that he’d “love” to return to Portland.
Injuries have significantly limited Thybulle over the last two seasons, as he appeared in only 45 regular season games during that stretch.
However, he did work his way back into Portland’s rotation near the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
According to Joe Freeman of The Oregonian, scouts around the league still value Thybulle’s defensive instincts and ability to disrupt plays away from the ball.
At the same time, evaluators questioned his effectiveness as an on-ball defender and raised concerns about his long-term availability.
One scout suggested Portland should move on from Thybulle in free agency because of those injury concerns.
“All I’ve heard about him is he doesn’t want to play basketball,” the scout said. “So are you really going to count on him to produce for you when you’re trying to win games?”
