Jeff Weltman thinks healthy Magic could compete in East

Orlando Magic president Jeff Weltman believes the team showed enough during their series against the Detroit Pistons to prove they can compete with top teams in the Eastern Conference.

“Had we stayed healthy, I’d like to imagine where we would have gone in this series and beyond,” Weltman said.

“I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t have competed against anyone else in the East if we could compete against the No. 1 team like that.”

Orlando lost the final three games after Franz Wagner suffered a calf injury in Game 4, including a Game 6 collapse after leading by 24 points.

As the team moves into the offseason, the focus will include hiring a new head coach following the departure of Jamahl Mosley, while maintaining confidence in the current roster.
