Following Victor Wembanyama’s dazzling outing that helped power the Spurs to a convincing win, he selected Devin Vassell to lead the team’s postgame drum celebration, according to Tom Orsborn of The San Antonio Express-News in a subscriber-only report.

Vassell delivered eight of his 15 points during the third quarter, helping the Spurs stretch their advantage into double digits, and also came up with two standout blocks just 17 seconds apart that energized the crowd and swung momentum firmly in San Antonio’s favor.

The first rejection came against the 7’3″ Clingan, while the second was a chase-down block on Jrue Holiday, showcasing his defensive effort on consecutive possessions.

“That’s what we talk about, not giving up on the play,” Vassell said. “Every possession matters, whether it’s the first possession in the first quarter or the last possession of the fourth quarter. Play to the whistle.”
