Sunday represented the 12th occasion this season in which the Spurs have limited an opponent to fewer than 100 points, and they remain unbeaten in those games, as highlighted by Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News.
Deni Avdija poured in 30 points, but San Antonio effectively contained the rest of Portland’s lineup.
The Spurs also managed to guard Avdija without sending him to the line often, as he attempted just six free throws.
DespiteVictor Wembanyama’s dominant showing, the Trail Blazers were only outscored by four points during his time on the floor, according to Bill Oram of The Oregonian.
However, they struggled significantly in the 14:17 that backup Luke Kornet played, posting a minus-9 differential in those minutes.
“Yeah, we couldn’t make money out of those minutes,” Portland coach Tiago Splitter said.
“You’re right. Kornet did a good job of defending and grabbing offensive rebounds. We’ve got to be better in those minutes, for sure.”
