Anthony Edwards denied awards eligibility despite appeal

Unlike Luka Doncic and Cade Cunningham, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards did not receive approval for an “extraordinary circumstances” exception and will not qualify for end-of-season awards.

Edwards missed time throughout the season due to a mix of injuries, including hamstring, foot and knee issues, along with an illness, finishing with 61 total appearances and just 60 games of at least 20 minutes, falling short of the 65-game requirement.

The NBA’s decision suggests Doncic and Cunningham were granted eligibility in part because they came closer to the threshold and missed games for reasons outside typical injuries.

Doncic sat out two games for the birth of his child, while Cunningham dealt with a collapsed lung.

However, the league has not clearly defined what qualifies as “extraordinary,” leading to some uncertainty around the criteria.

Edwards has played 6 seasons for the Timberwolves. He has averaged 24.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 442 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games.
