Joffrey Lauvergne has officially joined Kuwait SC, his agent confirmed on Sunday, signaling a new stage in the French center’s long professional journey.
At 34 years old, Lauvergne had been a free agent since leaving LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in June. He now takes on a new challenge with a club that has been a near-permanent champion in Kuwait’s domestic competition.
Lauvergne is bringing significant high-level experience with him, having made 170 appearances in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
In the 2024–25 season alone, he played 19 games and averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, along with 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks per game.
His three-year stay with ASVEL came after spells with Zalgiris and Fenerbahce Beko between 2018 and 2022. His early rise in European basketball took him from Élan Chalon to Partizan NIS from 2012 to 2014.
Lauvergne’s path also included time in the NBA.
Drafted 55th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013, he played in the league from 2015 to 2018, logging 212 games across stints with the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
He averaged 5.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.9 assists during his time in North America.
On the international stage, Lauvergne was a steady contributor for the French national team between 2013 and 2017.
He helped France win EuroBasket gold in 2013, followed by bronze medals at the 2014 FIBA World Cup and EuroBasket 2015.
He also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games and EuroBasket 2017.
