Southern Gaels were victorious in the Bon Secours Ladies County Senior Football Championship final.
At Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney they beat Na Gaeil 3-12 to 3-6.
The sides exchanged goals in the opening two minutes; Muireann Teahan netting for Southern Gaels & Maria Quirke doing likewise for Na Gaeil. It was 1-1 apiece after 10 minutes. Points from Siofra O’Shea, Mayers Lyons, Siun Fitzgerald and O’Shea again put Sourthern Gaels in control at 1-5 to 1-1 with 19 minutes gone. It was 1-7 to 1-3 at the short whistle.
As was the case in the first half, the first score of the second period was a Southern Gaels goal-Rachel Dwyer the scorer this time. After 40 minutes it was 2-9 to 1-4. 2 minutes later Na Gaeil got a much needed goal, courtesy of Megan O’Connor. With the score at 2-11 to 2-4 Na Gaeil goaled again, through Brid O’Connor, to move within 4 of Southern Gaels. That made it 2-11 to 3-4 after 49 minutes. Siofra O’Shea’s 59th minute goal proved to be the icing on the cake, putting them well out of reach at 3-12 to 3-5.
In the semi-final of the AIB Ladies Munster Senior Football Championship over the weekend of Oct 25/26 Southern Gaels will play Brian Borus, Tipperary.
Next weekend Na Gaeil take on Monagea, Limerick in the Munster Senior B Quarter Final.
