Victor Oladipo has not ruled out playing overseas as he works toward a return to professional basketball. The two-time NBA All-Star discussed the possibility in an interview with HoopsHype’s Sam Yip, reflecting on his future and the changing dynamics of the league.
Asked if he would consider signing with a European team, Oladipo said he remains focused on the NBA but is keeping an open mind. “You know, if push comes to shove and that’s the last option, we’ll see,” he said. “I’m definitely one of the best. So that’s where I belong is the three letters, N. B. A.”
The 33-year-old guard held a private workout in Las Vegas in July, attended by both NBA and European scouts. He said that while there was some interest, the timing and contract limitations under the league’s new collective bargaining agreement have delayed any formal opportunities.
“People show interest, but again, with the new CBA, with contracts and stuff, people can only do so much. So time will tell when the opportunity presents itself, I’ll be ready for it,” Oladipo told HoopsHype.
Oladipo last appeared in the NBA during the 2022–23 season with the Miami Heat before being traded twice and ultimately waived by Memphis in February 2024. After recovering from multiple injuries, he joined the Guangzhou Loong-Lions and played in their preseason matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, scoring 20 points in his debut.
The veteran guard, who averaged 16.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists across his ten-year NBA career, emphasized that his time away from the league has been spent on personal growth. “My mind has been within myself — bettering myself mentally, physically, and spiritually,” Oladipo said. “Understanding who I am and where I am. Choosing to form this new identity and new version of myself.”
Once regarded as one of the NBA’s top two-way players, Oladipo has battled significant injuries since his 2018 All-Star season with the Indiana Pacers. Despite that, he continues to express confidence that he can contribute at the highest level when given the chance.
