West Kerry glory for An Ghaeltacht

An Ghaeltacht are the Moran’s of Dingle West Kerry Senior football champions.

In the final in Lispole they defeated Castlegregory 2-14 to 1-16.

After the sides swapped points early on, a Gaeltacht 2 pointer put them ahead by 3 points to 1. An Ghaeltacht led 3 points to 2 after minutes, going on to go 3 clear. A penalty gave them the chance to double that advantage, which they duly did through Eanna O’Conchuir. It was 1-5 to 0-2 after the opening quarter. Castlegregory hit back with a point, then a goal -scored by Eoghan O Laighin – to move within 2 points at 1-5 to 1-3. Trailing by 1-7 to 1-4 with 24 minutes gone, Castlegregory were so close to drawing level but a goalbound shot hit the woodwork. An Ghaeltacht did goal again before half-time. An effort for a 2 pointer came back off the post, Adam Mac Amhlaoibh was on hand to claim the ball and finish to the net. Depite registering 8 wides An Ghaeltacht led at the break by 2-8 to 1-5.

An Ghaeltacht remained in charge upon the resumption, extending their advantage to 2-11 to 1-6. Castlegregory had the next 4 points to halve that deficit and at the 3/4 stage it was 2-11 to 1-10. Castlegregory got it back to a 3 points game late on at 2-14 to 1-14. In added on time a 2 pointer cut the gap to the minimum. 2-14 to 1-16 is how it finished.
