Victor Wembanyama posted 25 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Orlando Magic 112-103 on Sunday night at Frost Bank Center.
The win came after a chaotic 24-hour stretch for San Antonio, as the game tipped off five hours late due to weather-related travel issues and a mechanical problem on the team flight.
San Antonio was originally scheduled to return home Saturday night following a 111-106 loss in Charlotte, but a storm that dropped nearly a foot of snow forced an overnight stay.
The delay continued Sunday, pushing the scheduled 3 p.m. start first to 6 p.m. and later to 8 p.m., with the Spurs arriving back in Texas far later than planned.
Despite the disruption, the home team opened the game sharply by making seven of its first eight shots to build a double-digit lead within five minutes.
Wembanyama scored on San Antonio’s first two possessions, beating Wendell Carter Jr. for a finger-roll layup before finishing a two-handed dunk in traffic.
The 7-foot-4 center was cleared to play roughly 30 minutes before tipoff after being listed as questionable with left calf soreness.
Devin Vassell added 16 points, while rookie Dylan Harper scored 15 off the bench to support a balanced offensive effort.
De’Aaron Fox finished with 14 points and 10 assists, controlling tempo and helping the Spurs tally 27 assists on 41 made field goals.
San Antonio shot 50 percent from the field but struggled from three-point range, converting just 8 of 29 attempts.
The Spurs made up for it at the free-throw line, where they went 22 of 32 and consistently pressured Orlando’s interior defense.
Orlando was led by Desmond Bane, who scored 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while Paolo Banchero recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Magic entered the night having won two straight and were well-rested after remaining in San Antonio since Saturday’s win over Toronto.
Orlando shot 44 percent overall and went 10 of 30 from three-point range, but turnovers and interior defense proved costly.
San Antonio finished with 48 rebounds and blocked eight shots, five of them coming from Wembanyama.
Stephon Castle did not play for the Spurs due to left adductor tightness, limiting backcourt depth during the late start.
The victory improved San Antonio to 33-16, keeping the Spurs second in the Western Conference standings.
Orlando fell to 25-23 and remained eighth in the Eastern Conference after struggling to erase the early deficit.
The Magic will visit Oklahoma City on Tuesday night, while San Antonio hosts the Thunder on Wednesday.
