The Golden State Warriors have waived veteran guard Seth Curry. According to NBA insider Anthony Slater, the move is described as procedural, with the expectation that Curry will return to the roster within the first two months of the regular season.

Golden State, currently hard-capped at the second apron, made the decision to create short-term financial flexibility before finalizing its opening night roster. Slater noted that the Warriors anticipate bringing Curry back once the team has more room under the cap.

Curry, 34, signed an Exhibit 9 contract with the Warriors in early October, marking a reunion with his brother, Stephen Curry, for the 2025–26 season. The agreement was structured to allow the team to waive and re-sign him later when salary cap conditions permitted.

NBA insider Marc Stein previously reported that this arrangement was expected from the start. “He would have to be waived and re-signed a month or so into the regular season when Golden State has the requisite apron flexibility,” Stein wrote earlier this month.

Curry’s signing generated excitement among fans, as it presented the long-awaited opportunity for the Curry brothers to share the court in official NBA action. While Seth spent time with Golden State’s G League affiliate in 2013–14, he never appeared in a regular-season game for the franchise.

Over 11 NBA seasons, the sharpshooting guard has played for several teams, including Dallas, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn. He holds a career three-point percentage of 43.3%, ranking among the league’s most accurate perimeter shooters. Last season, he averaged 6.5 points per game while shooting 45.6% from beyond the arc in stints with the Mavericks and Hornets.

The Warriors also waived rookie guard LJ Cryer, who joined the team after going undrafted out of Houston. Cryer had standout shooting performances during preseason play, including a 14-point game against Portland on October 9.
