Should veteran big man Al Horford elect to play another season, the Golden State Warriors views him as an ideal complement to their aging core, especially with Kevon Looney’s uncertain status and Draymond Green entering the back half of his own career.
“I will say though the Warriors are hopeful of where they stand in all this if Al Horford decides to play again,” said Shams Charania during an appearance on SportsCenter Thursday afternoon.
The Warriors reportedly value Horford’s ability to space the floor, operate as a high-post facilitator, and bring veteran leadership to a locker room that has recently lacked frontcourt stability.
His skill set aligns with Golden State’s ball movement-heavy offense, and his defensive IQ could help balance the team’s aging core with some needed experience up front.
Horford has played 18 seasons for 4 teams, including the Hawks and Celtics. He has averaged 12.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 1,138 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 5 All-Star games, and has won 1 NBA championship.
