Victor Wembanyama recorded 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 121-103 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday at Frost Bank Center. The win improves the Spurs to 4-0, matching their best start in franchise history.
Stephon Castle added 22 points, while Harrison Barnes contributed 18 as San Antonio maintained control throughout the game. Six Spurs players scored in double figures, with Dylan Harper joining Wembanyama, David Robinson, and Willie Anderson as the only rookies in team history to reach double digits in their first four games.
Toronto fell to 1-3 after losing their third straight contest. R.J. Barrett led the Raptors with 25 points, Collin Murray-Boyles added 19, and Immanuel Quickley finished with 15, but the team could not close the gap in the second half.
Wembanyama, named Western Conference player of the week earlier Monday, dazzled with a 360-degree spin layup over Scottie Barnes in the first half and went 7-of-8 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line. His block with 3:59 remaining extended his streak to 89 consecutive games with at least one block, surpassing Patrick Ewing for the fourth-longest in NBA history.
San Antonio overcame an early challenge when Barrett’s fourth-quarter dunk cut the lead to 101-93 with 7:55 remaining. The Spurs answered with timely baskets and free throws to maintain their advantage.
The Raptors struggled to keep pace, shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range. Toronto hosts Houston on Wednesday, while San Antonio will face Miami at home.
The Spurs have now won four straight against the Raptors and have yet to be tested in the early season, showing depth and balanced scoring that has contributed to their historic start.
