Olympiacos Piraeus overpowered Zalgiris Kaunas 95–78 on Wednesday night at Peace and Friendship Stadium, ending the Lithuanian club’s four-game winning streak and handing the EuroLeague’s top-ranked defense its most lopsided loss of the season.
Zalgiris entered the matchup allowing just 76.2 points per game, but Georgios Bartzokas’s squad shredded that number early. Tyler Dorsey opened with a shooting display that set the tone for the night, scoring 12 of the Reds’ first 14 points to ignite a 28–14 first-quarter lead.
The guard hit from everywhere on the floor — pull-ups, floaters, and a deep three — as Olympiacos dictated tempo and forced Zalgiris into early foul trouble. Nikola Milutinov took over inside to close the first quarter, adding seven points and controlling the glass against Laurynas Birutis.
By halftime, the hosts were in full control, leading 50–36. Dorsey had 15 points at the break, while Sasha Vezenkov and Milutinov combined for 18 more. Zalgiris struggled to respond offensively, hitting just 18% from beyond the arc and finding no rhythm against Olympiacos’s switching defense.
The Greek powerhouse tightened the screws in the third quarter, holding the visitors to 17 points while stretching the lead to 74–53. Dorsey kept the momentum rolling with a highlight sequence that brought the home crowd to its feet — a fast-break alley-oop followed by an off-balanced four-point play after drawing a foul on former teammate Moses Wright.
Dorsey finished with 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting, coming just two shy of his career high. Milutinov added 16 points and nine rebounds, while Vezenkov contributed 14 points in 28 minutes. Olympiacos shot 61.9% from two-point range and recorded 18 assists on 33 field goals.
Zalgiris never recovered, despite 15 points from Sylvain Francisco and 13 from Moses Wright. The Lithuanian side fell to 7–3 after previously limiting every opponent since Round 3 to under 80 points.
The win lifts Olympiacos to 7–3, extending its home dominance and its winning streak over Zalgiris to nine games. The Reds will look to maintain that form on Friday in Milan against EA7 Emporio Armani, while Zalgiris travels to Dubai for its next challenge.
