Arsenal have opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen over signing England international Jarell Quansah. The Premier League champions have been keen to sign a defender following the injury to William Saliba and the 23-year-old Quansah, formerly of Liverpool, would be able to cover both centre-back and right back positions.
The Gunners have also received interest in Gabriel Martinelli from Galatasaray, while the he availability of striker Victor Osimhen has been raised in those talks. The deal could yet influence the speed of any move for Enzo Fernandez, with his former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca pushing for the midfielder’s signature. Chelsea’s deadline of 5pm on Friday passed without City submitting their £120m bid, and the club expect Fernandez to now stay for the upcoming season.

The consortium including Jeff Bezos has reached a definitive agreement to buy a minority stake in Liverpool from majority owners Fenway Sports Group for more than £1.5bn.
1892 Holdings, led by former QPR director Amit Bhatia and including the Amazon owner Bezos and Eduardo Saverin, one of the founders of Facebook, will have a share of between 30 per cent and one-third in the Premier League club.
FSG will retain operational control and run day-to-day operations, with no change to the leadership to the club. John W Henry remains principal owner, Tom Werner chairman and Mike Gordon president while the club’s strategy and broader principles remain the same.

Elliot Anderson insists Manchester United never came close to signing him
Elliot Anderson insists he never came close to a move to Old Trafford despite the attempts of some Manchester United players to persuade him while he was on holiday.
The 23-year-old became the most expensive British player in history when his £116m move to City from Nottingham Forest was announced in June during the World Cup before that deal was beaten last month by the £117m Chelsea paid Aston Villa for Morgan Rogers.
United had been reported to have made Anderson their primary transfer target at the end of last season before pulling out of the race for his signature.
When asked about his conversations with some United players on holiday, Anderson said: “I was just golfing in Portugal and bumped into a few and had a nice chat and stuff like that, but I had a decision to make and I chose City.”
Asked if United came close to persuading him to move to Old Trafford, Anderson replied: “No.”
West Ham agree Championship record deal
West Ham have agreed a deal worth £22m for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels.
Should it go through the move would break the Championship record transfer fee which is currently the £17.5m paid by Ipswich Town to Nordsjaelland for Sindre Walle Egeli.
Engels is understood to be scheduled in for a medical in London today.

Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi was asked about the future of winger Bradley Barcola following last night’s Super Cup victory against Aston Villa.
Barcola is Liverpool’s big transfer target this summer but the Reds are so far refusing to match PSG’s enormous asking price of £140m for the winger.
“We’re working calmly, we don’t talk too much,” Al-Khelaifi told Canal Plus. “I can’t say whether he will leave or not. Today, he is a PSG player. We’ll see.”
