Copa Independent | Transfer window special: £100m dominoes, Villa’s woes and the incoming deadline day frenzy

It’s a busy end to the transfer window with Tuesday’s deadline fast approaching and some of the biggest clubs and players are poised to move.

Cody Gakpo is set to leave Liverpool and join Manchester City in a shock move after Bradley Barcola’s £120m move from Paris Saint-Germainwas agreed. If Gakpo departs, the Reds could sign another winger, with previous interest in Ismaila Sarr from Crystal Palace having moved on from Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh.

Atletico Madrid remain steadfast on keeping Julian Alvarez or moving him to a club that is not Barcelona, with Arsenal’s hopes quickly fading.

While Manchester City remain in talks to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, who have been busy this weekend after signing Emiliano Martinez, who makes his debut against Brighton after a £7.5m deal from Aston Villa. If Fernandez does leave, Chelsea could sign a new midfielder, with previous interest in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott.

What next for Enzo Fernandez? Chelsea’s wantaway star left out by Xabi Alonso again

Enzo Fernandez missed the Chelsea game against Brighton with Xabi Alonso omitting him from the squad again.

“We need the squad to be 100 per cent focused”, Xabi Alonso told Sky Sports.

Man City appear to be playing the waiting game, perhaps teasing Chelsea into backing down from their £120m valuation should they face a scenario where they have to reintegrate an unhappy player.

Jamie Carragher backs Cody Gakpo sale at the right price

Jamie Carragher has backed Liverpool to sell Cody Gakpo to Man City at £80-85m.

City have shown interest in the Dutch international, while the Reds are close to signing Bradley Barcola for £123m.

And Carragher believes Gakpo’s role would be diminished enough with Barcola on board that a sale now makes sense.

“The money talked about for Gakpo £80/85M we should sell. With Barcola arriving he will be a squad player,” Carragher said on social media.

“We need to use that money for a right winger & give the squad a better balance.”
