It all began on March 23, 2023 – the night now at the center of the FBI’s gambling case against Terry Rozier.

Prosecutors say the veteran guard, then with the Charlotte Hornets, tipped off gamblers that he would leave the game early with a foot injury.

Those bettors allegedly wagered more than $200,000 on his “unders,” predicting he’d fall short of his usual stats.

Early in the first quarter against the Pelicans, Rozier appeared to reach for his right foot while running back on defense – the first sign that something was off.

With just under three minutes left in the period, he made a final pass to Larry Nance Jr., then walked slowly off the court after Brandon Ingram hit a three-pointer that put Charlotte down 33–20.

Rozier was subbed out during the timeout and never returned, finishing with five points, four rebounds, and two assists in just over nine minutes.

The Hornets said he left with a sore right foot, but federal investigators now allege the exit was planned, part of a scheme that earned the bettors tens of thousands in profit.
