Stephen Curry scored 46 points to guide the Golden State Warriors to a 125-120 road victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday at Frost Bank Center. Curry praised his teammates for maintaining energy and focus, especially after a rough first half.

“Blessed. We needed every bit of them tonight. Everybody stepped up, considering how last night went,” Curry said. He highlighted the team’s third-quarter surge, which combined defensive stops with fast-break opportunities that shifted momentum.

Curry admitted he struggled with early misses, taking a moment on the bench before halftime to regroup. “As a shooter, anytime you’re missing short, you get in your head a little bit. I had probably three or four of them,” he said, emphasizing the importance of mental composure in high-pressure games.

The Warriors’ offense became more aggressive in the second half, drawing fouls and exploiting driving lanes. Curry explained, “When you have space and driving angles, then you’re making the defense have to react… For me to get to the line many times, that means I’m able to drive, take advantage of mismatches.” Golden State went 32-for-36 from the free-throw line as a team.

Draymond Green’s defense on Victor Wembanyama drew praise from Curry. “He loves these types of matchups… He just made him work. He was physical all night. That’s the only way you can go against a talent like that,” Curry said, noting that effort on both ends was crucial to the win.

Curry also embraced the “David vs. Goliath” moments against Wembanyama. “I tried to shoot a couple rainbow moon balls over him… He challenges you in a way that doesn’t make any sense,” he said, showing his respect for the Spurs’ young star while celebrating his own performance.

Jimmy Butler added 28 points and eight assists, and Moses Moody contributed 19 as Golden State overcame triple-doubles from both Wembanyama (31 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists) and Stephon Castle (23 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists). The Warriors outscored San Antonio 76-64 in the second half, with Curry’s four third-quarter 3-pointers giving Golden State its first lead since the opening minutes.

Curry was asked about his historic 40-plus-point performance in relation to Michael Jordan’s record. He responded, “God willing, I might have another 40-point game before my career ends. That’s pretty good company for sure.”

Golden State improves to 7-6 on the season and splits the first two games of its six-game road trip. The teams meet again Friday, where Curry expects another high-stakes showdown in San Antonio.
