As the San Antonio Spurs have started this season on a strong note, maintaining their health is crucial for them to sustain their success.

Although their elite guard De’Aaron Fox has been taking charge, the long-term outlook might be compromised again without young cores such as Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper.

Spurs’ main superstar Victor Wembanyama has been out and is expected to miss multiple weeks due to his left calf strain, while Castle has a left hip flexor strain and will be re-evaluated in one to two weeks, per Shams Charania.

They have been the key factor in their winning momentum this early in the season, which has helped them rise to the top in the West.

The San Antonio currently has a 10-4 win-loss record, having just beaten the Grizzlies without this core, with Fox taking charge; however, it was not sustainable in the long term when they face playoff contenders.

The team can actually dominate the postseason with a complete roster led by Wembanyama, who is already proving that he runs the league from now on.

With just 14 games, the Spurs have proven a lot, but they should aim for health sustainability to secure a playoff spot, especially in the Western Conference, where there is much competitiveness.

If they hit what they aim at, this season might be the real turnaround to end their six-year drought from reaching the playoffs.

The Spurs last appeared in the playoffs in 2019, and their previous NBA championship was in 2014, when they defeated the Miami Heat.
