The San Antonio Spurs have become a potential destination for forward Guerschon Yabusele, who is set to enter unrestricted free agency on July 1 after his stint with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Last season, Yabusele played under a veteran minimum contract with the Sixers, who hold only his non-Bird rights, limiting their ability to offer him a substantial contract extension.
After spending five seasons playing professionally overseas in China, France, and Spain, Yabusele successfully reestablished himself in the NBA.
During the recent season, the 6-foot-8 forward appeared in 70 games for Philadelphia, starting 43 of them, and posted averages of 11 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
He demonstrated efficiency by shooting 50% from the field overall and knocking down 38% of his three-point attempts.
One factor that could make San Antonio an attractive option for Yabusele is the chance to play alongside fellow Frenchman Victor Wembanyama, who is considered one of the most promising young talents in the league.
Yabusele and Wembanyama share chemistry from their time together on the French national team, which might appeal to the forward as he weighs his next move.
Meanwhile, the Sixers are also expected to pursue Yabusele’s services again, though their financial flexibility is limited.
Philadelphia can offer him no more than the Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, valued at $5.7 million, which may not be enough to dissuade other interested teams from making competitive offers.
Overall, Yabusele’s free agency is drawing attention from multiple franchises eager to add his versatile skill set to their roster.
