Memphis Grizzlies backup guard Scotty Pippen Jr. is expected to be sidelined for at least 12 weeks after undergoing surgery on his left big toe.
The procedure was performed to address persistent discomfort he had been experiencing in that area.
Pippen played a significant role for the Grizzlies last season, appearing in 79 games and starting 21 of them.
During that stretch, he averaged 9.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.3 steals in 21.3 minutes per game, providing steady production in the backcourt.
His absence comes at a challenging time for Memphis, as the status of Ja Morant for the season opener is still uncertain due to a sprained ankle.
That leaves the Grizzlies potentially thin at the point guard spot to begin the year.
On top of their backcourt concerns, Memphis is already dealing with injuries in the frontcourt, with both Brandon Clarke and Zach Edey ruled out to start the season.
