Manchester United have sacked head coach Ruben Amorim after just 14 months in charge.

It follows comments from the Portuguese yesterday after their 1-all draw with Leeds, where he hinted at a breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy.

Amorim, who was appointed in November 2024, leaves with United sixth in the Premier League table.

In a statement, the club said a change in direction ‘will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish’.

Darren Fletcher will take charge of Wednesday’s game against Burnley.

Liam Rosenior is reportedly being interviewed for the vacant managerial role at Chelsea today.

The 41-year-old is currently with Strasbourg who are owned by Chelsea backers BlueCo.
