AC Milan have officially appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager, signalling a reset for the Italian club after a season that saw them fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The 41-year-old steps into the role following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri after a fifth-place finish. The club aims to overhaul its footballing operations.
Amorim, in a statement, expressed his understanding of the task ahead.
“I know exactly what this Club means: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world,” he said.
“It is a challenge I embrace with pride and enthusiasm, fully aware of what these colours represent. I can’t wait to get started and to experience every day the passion that drives AC Milan.”
This is Amorim’s first managerial job since he left Manchester United in January following a difficult 14-month spell at Old Trafford.
Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024, but could only lead United to their worst ever Premier League finish of 15th in the 2024-25 season.
The Red Devils did reach the Europa League final under Amorim but fell short in the showpiece event, losing 1-0 to fellow Premier League side Tottenham in Bilbao.
This meant United missed out on Europe last season, and Amorim was eventually sacked at the start of 2026 after appearing to criticise United bosses following a disappointing first half of the season.
He was succeeded by Michael Carrick, who went on to guide United to a third-placed finish, securing the club Champions League football for next season.
Amorim has now got another chance at a top European club as he looks to rebuild his career.
He previously enjoyed success at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, winning the league title twice in 2021 and 2024.
He also won the Portuguese League Cup twice with Sporting prior to his move to United.
