Rathmore have knocked East Kerry out of the Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Football Championship.
They’ve beaten the Championship favourites in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney by 1-21 to 0-9.
It was a point apiece after 4 minutes, Rathmore then going 2 points in front. A David Clifford 2 pointer brought East Kerry level on 11 minutes. Paul O’Shea scored another 2 pointer a minute later to put East Kerry 2 up. Rathmore responded with a Mark Ryan goal to nudge in front at 1-3 to 0-5. It was 1-4 to 0-5 after quarter of an hour. Thee was a single point in it with 7 minutes left in the half; 1-4 to 0-6. Rathmore were the better side in that opening half, after which they led by 1-6 to 0-7.
It was 1-7 to 9 points after just 2 minutes of the second period. However, Rathmore hit 8 without reply; Cathal Ryan, Ciaran Collins and Paul Murphy all on target, with Shane Ryan hitting a two pointer. That opened up a 1-15 to 0-9 advantage at the 3/4 stage. It was 1-18 to 0-9 with ten to go. Rathmore won by 15.
Austin Stacks are the second side into the last four, beating Kenmare in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney.
They were victorious by 1-19 to 0-15.
Stacks had the first two points but back to back scores from Kenmare had them level. Stacks went back in front thanks to a 10th minute Daniel Kirby 2 pointer. Stacks led 0-7 to 0-6 after 20 minutes. A Cian Purcell goal 2 minutes later had Stacks 5 clear. It was 1-10 to 0-7 in the 26th minute. A Sean O’Shea 2 pointer on the hooter brought Kenmare within 4 at the break, at 1-10 to 0-9.
Kenmare had halved that deficit to 1-11 to 0-12 within 6 minutes of the restart. Stacks were ahead 1-2 to 13 points at the 3/4 stage. Two quickfire points had Kenmare level. Paddy Lane pointed Stacks in front with the next score 10 minutes from time. That lead was quickly doubled, with another point putting them 3 clear. Stacks were 4 ahead at 1-16 to 1-12 after 54 minutes. They tagged on 3 more points before the end.
