Last Saturday saw Deerpark reintroduce their U16 Scratch Cup event (sponsored by the Victoria House Hotel, Killarney) for the first time in three years as it was played over 36 holes.

There was a tight finish for the overall title as only a shot separated Deerpark club-mates Aodhan O’Halloran and Luke Looney in the end.
Aodhan was victorious on six under par with Luke’s five under par total giving him the 8-13 prize on the day. The 14-15 section saw Adam Twomey and Adam Shine both finish on 114 with Twomey winning the section on countback. Fionn McMonagle was runner-up in the 8-13 section with 113 ahead of Fionn O’Callaghan who was a shot behind. Listowel’s Shona Griffin prevented a Deerpark clean sweep of the prizes by winning the Girls prize on the day with 136.
We congratulate Deerpark on bringing this event back and hope to see it grow again in future years. As we are about to head into October we wish any Kerry teams heading to the Kildare Shortgrass Classic this weekend the very best of luck as the next major outing will be for the two Deerpark teams and the Tralee side that have qualified for the National Inter-Club Finals on the weekend of October 12th as the year will end with the National Scotch Foursomes Finals on the October Bank Holiday Weekend with Deerpark also expected to host their rescheduled adult Scratch Cups that weekend.
The final official fixture by Pitch & Putt Ireland for the year will be the Mens Inter Provincial Challenge on the first weekend in November. Finally, the County Board wishes to offer our sincerest condolences to Castleisland’s John Fitzgerald and his family on the death of his son Shane last week.
May he Rest in Peace.
