The Detroit Pistons are reportedly very engaged in discussions involving Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, according to a recent tweet by NBA insider Matt George. George noted the Kings’ involvement in talks but indicated the deal likely would not include Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk.
Kuminga, 22, remains a restricted free agent as the Warriors and multiple teams explore options. The forward has increased his production steadily since entering the league in 2021, averaging 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season while playing 24.3 minutes per contest.
Interest in Kuminga spans several franchises, including Miami, Chicago, Sacramento, and New Orleans. The Heat reportedly hesitate at his rumored $30 million annual price tag, especially while considering other forwards like DeMar DeRozan and John Collins. Meanwhile, the Bulls are cautious about a large contract and have not found a viable trade involving Nikola Vucevic.
The Pelicans also express interest but face salary cap constraints that limit their ability to pursue Kuminga without incurring luxury tax penalties. Sacramento’s Kings have shown engagement as well but have not formalized an offer with Golden State.
The Warriors appear positioned to retain Kuminga on a manageable contract if other teams struggle to meet his demands. Both sides anticipated a slow-moving market, providing Golden State an advantage in negotiations.
Kuminga’s career averages reflect steady growth: 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game across 258 career appearances. His shooting efficiency has varied, but he offers defensive versatility and athleticism at the forward position.
