Penalty shootout glory for Ballymac in Premier Junior Club football final

Ballymacelligott have won the Kerry Petroleum Premier Junior Club Football Championship.

The final saw them get the better of St. Senan’s 4-1 on penalties after a 2-17 to 3-14 draw at Austin Stack Park, Tralee.

The opening score was a St.Senan’s goal, scored by Seanie McGrath after just two minutes. Senan’s were ahead by 1-2 to 3 points with 8 minutes on the clock. After Ballymac halved that deficit Conor Kennelly netted to put Senan’s ahead by double scores; 2-2 to 0-4 after 12 minutes. The next score was also a goal, this time out being Ballymac’s turn as Niall Collins brought them within a point in the 17th minute. Aidan Breen made it a tied game one minute later. A Ballymac two pointer, scores by Aidan Breen, meant it was level at the break at 2-5 to 1-8.

Ballymac had the first 2 points of the second period, through Donal Daly and Jack Joy. A Sean O Connell2 pointer brought Senan’s level after 6 minutes of the half. The same player did likewise 3 minutes later and Senan’s were ahead by 2-9 to 1-10. Rory Mahoney put 3 between the sides but Ballymac had the next 2 points to make it 2-10 to 1-12 with 14 minutes to go. After Ballymac drew level Senan’s nudged a point in front once more with 11 minutes remaining. The next score, a Niall Collins point in the final minute, brought proceedings to extra time as it finished 2-11 to 1-14.

Senan’s went a point in front midway through the opening period. The Ballymac equaliser came 3 minutes later but Senan’s will right up the other end and went one in front again, through Cathal Kennelly. Darragh Kennelly doubled that advantage and at the break it was 2-14 to 1-15.

Aidan Breen halved that deficit, then Ballymac goaled, courtesy of Jack Joy, with less than 2 minutes to go in extra time. The drama was far from over as Senan’s went straight up the other end to goal themselves. Connor Kennelly it was who put them back in front. A Darragh Broderick free meant penalties were necessary to determine the victor as it finished Senan’s 3-14 Ballymac 2-17.
