Parker denies taking prohibited substance

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Joseph Parker has denied taking a prohibited substance and says he’s “confident” an investigation into his failed drugs test will clear his name.

A positive reading was found in a sample the New Zealander supplied to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency on the day of his defeat to Fabio Wardley last month.

Parker, who’s trained by Irish former middleweight champion Andy Lee, says news of the failed test came as “a real surprise”.

Conor Benn hopes to avenge his defeat to fellow British boxer Chris Eubank Junior in tonight’s rematch at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He’s moved up two divisions for the non-title middleweight bout and slightly outweighs his opponent.

Benn lost on points in April after Eubank Junior was fined, having missed the weight limit.
