Panathinaikos are in advanced talks with Guerschon Yabusele, according to Sotiris Vetakis, as the EuroLeague contender evaluates frontcourt reinforcements ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
The Athens side is waiting for final developments in the United States before moving further, since the French forward could become available if he fails to secure a suitable NBA role.
The 30-year-old is currently part of the New York Knicks roster, but his situation has changed in recent weeks. Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reported that New York has discussed potential trades involving Yabusele while trying to fine-tune its rotation rather than make major changes.
His limited role explains the uncertainty surrounding his future. The Frenchman averages 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 9.1 minutes across 40 games while shooting 39.3 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from three-point range, production that has not secured a steady place behind Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges.
Roster construction in New York has also reduced his opportunities, with Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson occupying key minutes in the frontcourt rotation. Marc Stein previously reported that the Knicks have explored smaller deals built around Yabusele’s $5.5 million salary, partly because of a player option worth nearly $6 million next season.
Panathinaikos are monitoring the situation closely as they prepare for a demanding second half of the EuroLeague season. The Greek club sits eighth in the standings at 15-10, tied with Crvena Zvezda and within a tight cluster of playoff contenders, making roster depth a priority.
Athens will host the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four, which adds pressure on the organization to secure a top-eight finish. Strengthening the forward rotation could provide tactical flexibility, especially in lineups that rely heavily on scoring from Kendrick Nunn, who averages 19.4 points per game, and wing production from Cedi Osman at 12.9 points.
Frontcourt minutes are currently shared by Juancho Hernangomez, Kostas Mitoglou, Kenneth Faried, and Omer Yurtseven, each contributing rebounding and interior efficiency.
