Oisín Murphy Set For Historic Homecoming At Killarney Races

Five-time British Champion Flat Jockey Oisín Murphy is set for a historic homecoming at Killarney Races.

The Killarney native is officially scheduled to ride at his home track for the very first time on Tuesday, during day two of the Killarney July Festival.

Murphy grew up just miles from the racecourse, but has never previously ridden in a professional race at Killarney.

Despite being one of the leading flat jockeys in world racing, his appearances in Ireland have been limited.

He has ridden eight winners in Ireland to date, with four at the Curragh, three at Leopardstown and one at Listowel.

Murphy has won more than 30 Group 1 races internationally, with victories in Britain, Ireland, France, the United States, Canada and Japan.

Killarney Racecourse Manager Karl McCay says the racecourse is thrilled to welcome Murphy back to his hometown.

He says having a world-class champion jockey from Killarney ride at the track for the first time is a huge honour and will add to the July Festival.
