Chicago Bulls big man Nikola Vucevic is well aware that his name has surfaced in trade discussions before. He also understands why many assumed he might seek a move after the Bulls parted ways with DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine over the past year.
However, despite the roster shake-ups, Vucevic appears committed to staying in Chicago and finishing out his contract.
“Who knows what happens in the summer, but right now I’m focused on this group of guys,” Vucevic said, emphasizing his dedication to the current team.
“I’ve really enjoyed playing with them. Guys with good character, guys that really want to win, they care. We play for each other, we compete, and that’s what you want.”
The veteran big man has one year left on his current deal, with $21.5 million due next season as part of the three-year extension he signed with the Bulls.
Rather than seeking an exit, Vucevic has embraced the challenge of competing with a revamped squad, finding satisfaction in the team’s resilience and effort.
“It’s just the way it is in this league. You can’t dwell over what happens,” he explained, acknowledging the business side of basketball.
“Teams make decisions, front offices, and that’s their decision. We as players, we focus on what we can do to become the best versions of ourselves.”
Despite the uncertainty that looms beyond this season, Vucevic remains locked in, valuing the camaraderie and competitive spirit within the Bulls’ locker room as they continue to push forward.
