Thunder guard Nikola Topic returned to game action Monday, appearing in a G League contest for the Oklahoma City Blue.
In a win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Topic played 16 minutes, scoring seven points on 3-of-5 shooting and adding seven assists.
The 20-year-old missed his entire rookie season while recovering from a torn ACL suffered in Serbia with KK Crvena Zvezda.
He then faced another setback during the Thunder’s preseason, when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent three rounds of chemotherapy, with hopes of returning later this season.
With Oklahoma City dealing with several injuries, Topic could make his NBA debut after the All-Star break.
Head coach Mark Daigneault praised Topic’s resilience and perseverance in returning to the court.
“Great accomplishment,” Daigneault said. “Just can’t say enough about him as a guy, his mental toughness, maturity, resilience. … So for him to work himself back onto the court is just an unbelievable accomplishment, and we’re incredibly happy for him.”
