Mitchell Robinson, Knicks unlikely to reach extension

Mitchell Robinson and the New York Knicks never held any serious discussions about a contract extension before the season began, and there’s currently no indication that the two sides will reach an agreement before the June 30 deadline.

If no deal is struck, the player will become an unrestricted free agent in July, positioning him as one of the most sought-after centers on the market.

The 27-year-old big man would likely draw strong interest from teams with significant salary cap space this offseason – a scenario that could complicate New York’s ability to retain him.

The Knicks are already navigating potential luxury tax and salary cap apron constraints, meaning re-signing Robinson could prove difficult if he commands a lucrative offer elsewhere.

Robinson has played 8 seasons for the Knicks. He has averaged 7.8 rebounds and 7.8 points in 340 regular-season games.
