The Dallas Mavericks are already discussing significant roster adjustments following recent changes in basketball operations, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.
Minority owner Mark Cuban, previously sidelined from personnel decisions, has reportedly returned to the decision-making table.
The move comes after the firing of Nico Harrison, whose tenure in Dallas was marked by internal tension and controversial decisions. Former Mavericks senior analyst Jeremias Engelmann described Harrison’s era as an echo chamber, where critical voices were silenced and loyalists were rewarded, influencing key moves including the trade of Luka Doncic to the Lakers.
Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi have assumed interim control of basketball operations, tasked with stabilizing the organization and evaluating the team’s direction. Mannix reported that Dallas’ new decision-makers have already begun examining “radical roster changes,” signaling potential shakeups in the coming weeks.
The Mavericks have struggled through the early portion of the 2025–26 season, posting a 3–9 record through 12 games. Injuries to Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, and Kyrie Irving have compounded challenges, though Anthony Davis has led the team with 20.8 points, 10.2 assists, and 6.8 rebounds per game over five appearances. Cooper Flagg and D’Angelo Russell have also provided strong contributions.
Internal friction escalated recently when owner Patrick Dumont bypassed Harrison on Anthony Davis’ return-to-play decisions, highlighting fractured trust within the front office. Reports indicate disagreements over Davis’ play in Washington last Saturday were a key factor in Harrison’s exit.
Voices within the Mavericks organization are reportedly advocating for the return of former Harrison adviser Dennis Lindsey from Detroit to provide guidance, while Finley and Riccardi focus on short-term stability. The team’s early-season struggles and injury issues have intensified discussions about possible roster overhauls.
