Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia praised Devin Booker’s loyalty and leadership during an appearance on The Draymond Green Show, highlighting the guard’s commitment to the team amid recent transitions.

“When we went through some tough times, it’d be easy for that franchise player to be like, ‘Hey man, I put my time in. I’m ready to go,’” Ishbia said, via HoopsHype. “Instead, he did the reverse. He said, ‘I’m with you, Matt. I believe in what we’re doing. I’m all in with you. I’ll even sign an extension.’ He’s had my back. I’ll always have his back.”

Booker, 26.4 points per game in 35.6 minutes through 18 games this season, has remained the Suns’ cornerstone during a major offseason restructuring. Phoenix replaced head coach Mike Budenholzer with Jordan Ott and promoted Brian Gregory to general manager while executing a record-breaking seven-team trade that sent Kevin Durant to Houston and brought in Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and multiple draft picks.

Ishbia credited Booker’s presence for stability as the franchise navigated organizational change and roster upheaval. “He means so much to the Arizona community, the Phoenix community, and he knows that,” Ishbia said. “When everyone else turns their back on you, you find out who your real friends are. Devin has shown that loyalty every step of the way.”

The Suns have struggled at times this season, holding an 11-7 record through 18 games, but Booker’s leadership has anchored the team both on and off the court. He has averaged 4.1 assists and 6.9 rebounds per 36 minutes, maintaining his role as the primary scorer while supporting the development of younger players like Jalen Green and Khaman Maluach.

Off the court, Booker’s commitment was evident in his decision to sign a contract extension during a period when other franchise stars in similar situations might have pursued opportunities elsewhere. Ishbia emphasized that this gesture strengthened the relationship between player and ownership.

Phoenix’s front office continues to integrate new coaching staff members, including assistant coaches DeMarre Carroll, Brian Randle, and Jesse Mermuys, while leveraging Booker’s experience to guide younger talent. The team’s revamped roster, coupled with Booker’s leadership, is positioned to contend in a highly competitive Western Conference despite offseason turbulence.

Ishbia concluded by reflecting on the personal significance of Booker’s loyalty. “It’s been special. Very, very lucky to have him,” he said, underscoring the guard’s role as both a team leader and a stabilizing force in Phoenix’s long-term vision.
