Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault spoke candidly after their 119-107 Game 6 defeat against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. He praised his team’s effort in the first half but acknowledged the second half tilt in Denver’s favor.

“We played a really good first half. To weather the early storm and only be down three at the end of the first quarter was positive,” Daigneault said. “We took control in the second, but they outplayed us in the second half. They were sharper and made more plays.”

When asked if the poor closing moments of the first half affected the second half, Daigneault replied, “We didn’t close the first half great, but when halftime ends, you get 24 minutes to go play your best regardless of what just happened.”

Daigneault also addressed the impact of foul trouble on key players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Jalen Williams, all of whom picked up their third fouls near each other. “It obviously impacted substitutions and how we managed the game, but none of them fouled out, so they were able to stay on the floor.”

On Gilgeous-Alexander’s fluctuating performance, the coach pointed to his defensive consistency and floor game. “Even on a rough shooting night, his defense and assists show his impact. He missed some shots he normally makes, but he’s a valuable floor player.”

Regarding the team’s shooting, Daigneault said, “We had decent quality looks, especially with ball movement. Sometimes you miss them, but we always review every possession.”

He credited Denver’s sharp execution and contribution from role players like Christian Braun and Julian Strawther as key factors. “They played collectively better in the second half, and you tip your hat to them.”

Looking ahead to Game 7, Daigneault stressed resilience. “Both teams have exchanged blows. Denver got theirs tonight, and we need to stand back up Sunday. We must embrace the opportunity to play at home and be who we’ve been all season.”

The Thunder will face elimination at home on Sunday, with the series tied 3-3.
